By Dr. Kamel Mohanna
President of Amel Association International
On this sacred ground of Shmastar, we gathered not only to remember, but to affirm. The name of Talal Salman does not simply crown the sign of a center—it resonates in every brick, every tree, and every heartbeat of this space that now bears his legacy. This is not an ordinary dedication. It is a gesture of loyalty, of history, and of gratitude.
Talal Salman was more than a friend. Between him and me was a unity of vision—of purpose—that time never diminished. Our paths converged in a shared belief: that dignity is not a luxury, but a right. His pen championed that cause through As-Safir, while Amel, through its actions, carried it into the lives of the vulnerable.
Long before we opened the doors of this center, Talal had already opened his heart to its mission. With unmatched generosity and quiet strength, he supported its founding, financing it not out of obligation, but out of love—for his town, his people, his country. Shmastar, the place he loved, is now the eternal bearer of his name.
His support never waned. Even as the challenges grew, Talal continued to ask, to follow up, to offer—quietly, humbly, without seeking recognition. Whether it was for local families or Syrian refugees, he saw no distinction. Humanity was his compass. This region, long neglected, found in him an advocate who demanded that the state serve its citizens and compensate for years of marginalization.
He was, without a doubt, the golden pen of Arab journalism—a voice for the voiceless, an unwavering defender of national and Arab causes. Courage was his signature. He walked unafraid into controversy and danger, never hesitating to speak truth to power.
Yet, it is perhaps in his hidden acts of kindness that his greatness shines brightest. Away from the public eye, he helped others in silence. Today, with his family’s blessing, we lift the veil of that quiet legacy and name this space:
“The Talal Salman Health, Social and Development Center”
— not merely to honor him, but to carry forward his mission.
Dear brother, dear friend—though you are no longer with us in body, you are ever-present in memory, in conversation, in laughter, in the work we do. You are with us in Shmastar, in Khiam, in every article, in every outreach activity. Your name will never fade from our lips nor from our hearts.
With your beloved family—Um Ahmad, Hanadi, Ahmad, Rabia, Ali, and their families—we walk forward. With loyal friends like Hussein Ayoub, and with the people of Shmastar, we promise to keep your dream alive. Together, in joy and in hardship.
Let this center be not the end of memory, but the beginning of legacy. Let it grow stronger with every initiative, every child treated, every elderly person comforted, every refugee served.
You, who once stood courageously at your post in As-Safir, fighting the corruption that starved your people, have now found peace in the land you cherished. Shmastar, with its soil, its nature, and its people, cradles you forever.
You were the son of this village and the voice of a nation. You traveled the world seeking truth, defending justice, resisting modern colonialism, and affirming the cause of Palestine and Arab unity. A citizen of Lebanon—and of the world—you carried your convictions with pride.
Your journalism shaped minds. As-Safir was more than a newspaper—it was a school of truth. Many who graduated from your pages now lead the Arab media. Your ink continues to draw lines between past, present, and future—reminding us who we are, and who we strive to be.
And so, on this second anniversary of your passing, we raise your name once more—not in grief, but in honor. So that generations to come may inherit your values and carry your torch of justice and humanity.
✊ We remain together, dear Talal. We remain together.
